Brno, August 27 2018
With the very last concert of Špilberk International Music Festival Filharmonie Brno has definitely closed its 62nd season and more than successfully: festival evenings visited the highest number oaf visitors in last seven years. Same records goes with festivals Moravian Autumn and Easter Festival of Sacred Music.
Špilberk Festival opened its gates for 3102 visitors and average attendence reached 83%. With 852 visitors the most successful was the closing concert Olympic Symphonic, the second place with 850 visitors goes to Moravia Brass Band and its Film Music Tour. „It is obviously that summer time is made for easy music programmes and for various cross-overs. But we were satisfied with a high interest in our philharmonic concerts with classical repertoire. Concert Happy Birthday, Maestro! celebrating our Republic and Leonard Bernstein attended 637 visitors so the Courtyard of Špilberk Castle was filled in 85%“, says Marie Kučerová, the Director of Filharmonie Brno.
Same records goes with another 62nd season´s festivals. Moravian Autumn 2017 held in October attended 4028 visitors and with 78% of capacity it was the most sucesfull one in its history. „I dare to say there were several topics, for example Rituals with compositions of Kutavičius and Kabeláč and of course with 1600 tickets completely sold out Symphony of Sirens. There are still many notes about this extraordinary event, one of them is a TV document in coproduction with Bavarian Radio broadcasted in April by TV station ARD,“ says Vítězslav Mikeš, the Dramaturge of Filharmonie Brno.
Easter Festival of Sacred Music held in March and April was with attendance 81% of capacity the third record-breaking festival. Six concerts and three Tenebraes attended 2219 visitors. „We noticed an extraordinary interest in closing concert of the Festival when we added seatings, standing tickets and also two screens. The reason was combination of an attractive programme and the new Chief Conductor of Filharmonie Brno Dennis Russell Davies conducting in Brno for the first time,“ says Lucie Šnajdrová, the Manager of the festival.
Although Špilberk is just over, we are preparing the next one. „If everything goes well, on August 21 we will present very attractive cross-over aiming the date. Also there is a special programme for the opening concert of Easter Festival with our Chief Conductor – world premiere of composition written for our orchestra by an internationally acclaimed author,“ says Mikeš.
The closest remark on our festivals is on 20th Octorber 2018 in Besední house – a preview of Moravian Autumn. The Jubilee 50th year of the festival will be during autumn next year. „We are very happy for the visitor records. Especially because festivals audiences are different than the one we are aiming with our subsriptions,“ evaluates Kučerová.
