PRESS RELEASE Brno, 11.3.2020
Music fans need not miss out on the cancelled Pictures at an Exhibition concert. Filharmonie Brno Orchestra has decided to stream the concert on its website and Facebook page. This concert is an exceptional project which in its world premiere is accompanied by visualisations by internationally-renowned artist Cori O’Lan produced in collaboration with Ars Electronica. “I want to really thank the orchestra, Chief Conductor and Cori O’Lan for accommodating the audience in this way. Cori will be personally projecting the visualisation in the hall,” says Director of Filharmonie Brno Orchestra, Marie Kučerová.
In contrast to the plan, the concert will not be taking place in the Janáček Theatre, but rather in Besední dům. Here, the orchestra will occupy the entire stage. Viewers will be able to see the “visualisation which will transpose the music in real time into images using sensors located above the musicians,” on their monitors. “We’ll be interlacing it with shots of the orchestra,” says Chief Conductor of Filharmonie Brno Orchestra, Dennis Russell Davies, adding that the broadcast will encompass Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Martinů’s The Frescoes of Piero della Francesca. The concert will begin with a short video introduction by Filharmonie Brno Orchestra’s Director and its Chief Conductor.
The Thursday and Friday concert at the Janáček Theatre was almost sold out. Customers can return their tickets for the cancelled concert from the day after the concert was meant to take place. Returns can only be made at Philharmonic Advance Sales on Besední street, which is open on Monday to Friday from 1.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Fees are returned in cash; they cannot be put on a credit or debit card. You can return your ticket up to 90 days from the date the concert was to take place, although it is best to return it within a month of the date of the event.
Kučerová does not yet wish to speculate on how many other concerts this ban might affect. “All we know for sure is that we won’t be performing next week either, when we have four sold-out concerts. We’ll be returning fees for these too,” adds Kučerová.
The live broadcast of the concert begins tomorrow at 7.00 pm. We shall be publishing a link where it can be followed tomorrow afternoon on our website and Facebook page.
