• One of the deepest and most existential symphonies ever written, promising a profound experience under the baton of the chief conductor, Dennis Russell Davies ● Mahler’s last completed work from 1909-1910, first performed a year after the composer’s death, on 26 June 1912 in Vienna under the baton of Bruno Walter ● The “Accursed Ninth” as a “musical depiction of death itself” ● Described by Alban Berg as “the most beautiful piece ever written by Mahler” ● A feature-length monument in four movements, consisting of a philosophically contemplative Andante, a parodic, grimacing scherzo, a demonic Rondo-Burlesque and the climactic finale, anxiously spanning the existential abyss between sound and silence, being and non-being, life and death…
