Event Details

This concert programme is primarily drawn from the repertoire that Filharmonie Brno, under the baton of its chief conductor, will present on its tour of the United States, immediately preceding this concert.

One of the many objectives Dennis Russell Davies set for himself as chief conductor at Filharmonie Brno was the performance (and recording) of all of Antonín Dvořák’s symphonies. For the 2022/2023 season, he chose two from the composer’s late period: the Seventh (which we will hear in June 2023) and the Eighth.

Yumi Hwang-Williams was first introduced to the Brno audience in March 2019, when she gave the first Czech performance of Thomas Adès’s violin concerto Concentric Paths (with Davies conducting). A graduate of the celebrated Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, she quickly became hailed as a modern Prometheus by String Magazine, bringing the same deep understanding to the classical violin repertoire as to the latest novelties from leading composers. Since 2000, she has been the concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony.
