EXPOSITION OF NEW MUSIC / [NO IDEAS] BUT IN THINGS

Established in 1987, the Exposition of New Music is a contemporary music festival which sees the “exposition” of its title not solely as a presentation, but also as interaction, participation and lively communication with people and the public space. Over the past three years (2021–2023), the theme of the festival has always relied on a certain overarching idea, which the programming broadly explored. For 2024, the programmers have gone in the opposite direction, seeking to find in Czech and international culture interesting projects, composers and performers, whose art has made a substantial contribution to the immeasurable variety and plurality of the contemporary music scene and beyond, and to bring these projects “under one roof” during the festival week. In just one week in October concert goers can experience seven unique pro jects, made to measure for the festival and reflecting the Year of Czech Music 2024. The festival will climax in the first Czech performance of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Fresco, a composed, site-specific project for four spatially separated ensembles whose membership is only loosely defined. Over five hours, they will enliven
all four corners of Besední dům.
