Kantiléna is a select children and young people’s choir at Filharmonie Brno; around 130 singers aged between 5 and 19 are members of its three divisions. It was set up in 1956 as Šlapanický Children’s Choir on the initiative of Ivan Sedláček, its later Art Director of many years.
In 1967 it became a select choir with its current name, and since 1984 has been run at Filharmonie Brno. Over the period it has been running, it has held over 1 500 concerts domestically, in 17 European countries, the USA, Canada and Japan. Its repertoire reaches from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary pieces, and it has performed spiritual music programmes at more than 250 churches nationally, in European cities and in New York.
