Event Details

Yazz Ahmed trumpet, electronics
Ralph Wyld vibraphone, marimba, elektronics

Trumpet player Yazz Ahmed has an interesting background: her mother is British and her father is from Bahrain, a West Asian island where Ahmed spent her childhood until returning to London at the age of nine. Music, and straight jazz and trumpet, ran in her family: her maternal grandfather played the same instrument. Her talent and diligence led her to study at the prestigious London School of Music and Drama, the Guildhall School of Music.

Yazz Ahmed is considered to be part of the current very popular and, more importantly, very progressive young London jazz scene, largely made up of figures with non-European family and cultural backgrounds. At the same time, however, it does keep a bit of aloof and goes its own way. She has collaborated with a number of artists who, like her, stand above genres, whether it be Radiohead, singer Natacha Atlas or the indefatigable American avant-gardist John Zorn.

At the Brno concert, Yazz Ahmed will perform in a duo with British marimba player Ralph Wyld, who is also a member of her quartet and has been one of the most sought-after percussionists and vibraphone and marimba players in the last decade, both in her own group Mosaic and in a number of other projects.

The concert can be purchased as a part of a full subscription at the Ticket office of Filharmonie Brno on Besední Street and online from 27 May 2024.
The concert will be sold separately from 17 June 2024.
