Featuring core Filharmonie Brno musicians as soloists or ensemble members (the harp sichordist Lucie Fišerová being the exception), this chamber concert will take us to late 18th-century Vienna. It is a time of the Josephine reforms, Enlightenment, fundamental political change and, most importantly for us, the late Classical period in music. One of the defining moments of this epoch was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s resignation as the Kapellmeister of the Archbishop of Salzburg, Hieronymus, Count Colloredo-Waldsee. Thus in 1781 the composer went freelance and moved to Vienna, where over the following years he made his living particularly from concertising at public and private academies. Thanks to the memoirs of Michael Kelly, the Irish tenor who first portrayed Don Basilio in the Viennese production of the Marriage of Figaro (1786), we know that one of these private performances in Vienna in 1784 at the home of the composer Stephen Storace had a truly extraordinary cast: Joseph Haydn and Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf on the violins, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on the viola and Johann Baptist Wanhal on the cello.
The concert can be purchased as part of a full subscription at the Ticket office of Filharmonie Brno on Besední Street and online from 27 May 2024.
The concert will be sold separately from 17 June 2024.
