Event Details

In the early months, Pavel Haas struggled greatly with his internment. Long periods of inactivity alternated with periods of feverish work, making him one of the most active Terezín composers. The frantic race against time influenced not only the scope and instrumentation of his works but also significantly impacted the expressivity of his music, as well as its fragmentary and unfinished nature. Musicologist and director of the Terezín Composers Institute, Lubomír Spurný, is the author of publications on music theorist Heinrich Schenker and composers Alois Hába, Gideon Klein, and Pavel Haas. In 2024, he, together with Ondřej Pivoda, received an award from the Music Library Association for the publication “Pavel Haas: A Catalogue of the Music and Writings.”
