conductor Petr Altrichter

  • George Enescu, a composer of national importance for Romanians in the same way Smetana is for the Czechs, and the more famous of his two orchestral rhapsodies steeped in the folk music of his native country ● An ingenious transcription of selected numbers from Bizet’s Carmen for a large battery of percussion and strings penned by the Russian composer, Rodion Shchedrin ● A ballet suite commissioned by the legendary ballerina and Shchedrin’s wife, Maya Plisetskaya, and premiered with choreography by Alberto Alonso in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre in 1967 ● Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, written in 1877 and dedicated to the composer’s patron, Nadezhda von Meck – an autobiographical “unburdening of the soul in music, with its essence distilled into sounds, as a lyrical poet expresses himself in verse” ● Brno Philharmonic under the baton of its former chief conductor, Petr Altrichter
