A series of extraordinary concerts offer traditional philharmonic events, including the Opening Concert of the Season, the New Year’s Concert (this time with a festive and dance-like programme under the baton of its chief conductor), and a meditative concert (not only) for expectant parents called The Mozart Effect. The hugely successful project In the Orchestra: How time goes by will be repeated in May, while February will offer a new programme called In the Orchestra: Music and History. We will also follow up last year’s very well-received Laureates’ Concert and introduce other up-and-coming performers, and we will also offer a new world premiere of the fairy tale melodrama Puss in Boots, orchestrated by Robert Groslot. The 70th season brings you a truly rich portion of unique experiences.

It’s Filharmonie Brno’s jubilee year! We are proud to announce that this year is our 70th season and that once more we are under the baton of our chief conductor, Dennis Russell Davies, who has been at the helm of our orchestra for eight fantastic seasons. The same jubilee is celebrated by Kantiléna, a children’s choir first established by Ivan Sedláček in 1956 as Šlapanice Children’s Choir that has part nered with Filharmonie Brno since 1984. Symbolically, the two musical celebrants will open the season together and, working with the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno and the mezzo-soprano Kateřina Hebelková, will present to Brno audiences the monumental Third Symphony by Gustav Mahler who was born in Kaliště (Kalischt) in Bohemia, and whose nine completed numbered symphonies are considered the pinnacle of the 19th century Romantic symphony form.
