This concert presents two works by notable figures of French Romanticism, Symphonic Variations by César Franck (1822–1890) and Symphony on a French Mountain Air by his pupil Vincent d’Indy (1851–1931), under the baton of a rising French star, Lucie Leguay. Both works will afford Igor Ardašev, a favourite of audiences in Brno and beyond, with a unique opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of his keyboard personality.
In the second part we will hear the Concerto for Orchestra by Béla Bartók (1881–1945), one of the most important composers of the first half of the 20th century. Weighty enough to be considered a symphony, the work was given by its author a title emphasising the virtuoso character of the individual instrumentál parts, often treated as solos.
