Join us and enjoy cutting–edge performances by artists whom we may soon be encountering regularly on prestigious concert stages.
Pre-concert discussion
We cordially invite you to a discussion with the dramaturge and his guest, Kryštof Mařatka, who will introduce listeners to his composition Luminárium, which was performed by our orchestra in its 63rd season and was very warmly received. After seven years, his son, the young and talented Yan Mařatka, will perform as soloist, and you will also have the opportunity to meet him briefly during the discussion.
The concerto for clarinet and orchestra was commissioned by Selmer-Paris in 2002 and dedicated to Michel Lethiec, who premiered the composition with the Orchestre Poitou-Charentes at the Sully-sur-Loire Festival in June 2002. a year later, he also performed it with the Prague Symphony Orchestra at the Prague Spring festival, and in 2018 here at the Besední dům.
The composer added the following commentary to the composition: Luminarium, a concerto for clarinet and orchestra, is a kind of kaleidoscope of harmonies and sounds from around the world, a concise anthology inspired by the musical expressions of different regions of the Earth. Rather than developing a single story, the composition resembles a documentary offering observations on the fascinating diversity of musical languages. The architecture of the work consists of nine movements, each divided into three parts, for a total of twenty-seven fragments inspired by twenty-seven countries.
The discussion will take place at 6 p.m. in the director’s lounge, and admission is free.
Tickets for the concert can be purchased SEPARATELY or as part of a TAILOR-MADE SEASON, which offers a volume discount based on the number of concerts.
