Flamenco dancer Maise Márquez has the best credentials one can have in the industry. Her talent has been confirmed not only by her artistic training, but also by her many previous engagements on respected stages and prestigious awards.

Maise Márquez comes from Murcia, the seventh largest city in Spain, located in the south-east of the country. Continuing her family’s artistic tradition, she also received a formal education in a traditional cultural field, having studied dance at a professional dance conservatory in her hometown. At the age of seventeen, she received a scholarship from the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Art Foundation and later from the Andalusian Dance Centre, all in Seville, where she moved and where she still lives today in the “flamenco capital”. Her teachers here were stars of the genre such as Rubén Olmo, Antonio Canales, Rafael Campallo, Adela Campallo, Andrés Peña, Carmen Ledesma, Farruquito, Isabel Bayón and others.

Maise Márquez began her professional career as a soloist in the company of the important Andalusian Flamenco Ballet and in the dance projects of Eva Yerbabuena and Patricia Guerrero. She has performed on the world’s great stages with artists such as Antonio Canales, Pastora Galván and Rocío Molina.

As a solo dancer, in recent years she has repeatedly performed to great acclaim on such prestigious stages as La Casa del Flamenco in Seville and Teatro Flamenco in Madrid, as well as the Flamenco Festival in La Villette, Paris. In 2019, she won the Special Prize of the Jerez Pure Flamenco Festival in the International Flamenco Dance Competition.

She first presented herself to the Czech audience in 2022 at the Ibérica Festival. This time she will bring to Brno her performance Presencia, which she premiered in October 2021 at the Ciutat Flamenco Festival in Barcelona. Presencia (Presence) expresses in an intense yet minimalist language the transmission of various emotions through movement and music, and the feedback so far speaks of an extremely intense emotional experience that is inherent only in the best flamenco artists.
