Filharmonie Brno

We already know the orchestra—we know how powerful it can sound, and also why it needs a conductor to keep it together. But what actually lies within? What instruments make up its colorful world, who calls the shots, and who, on the other hand, patiently waits for their big moment? And can a musician in the orchestra just sit wherever they please?
The Family Subscription Series takes you inside the musical system known as the orchestra. Together, we’ll discover how the individual sections work together, who sets the tempo, who tells the melody, and who creates tension in the background. We’ll find out that every instrument has its own irreplaceable role—and that even silence can be full of anticipation.
And this year, you don’t have to stay just as listeners! We invite you to join forces with our orchestra: young listeners can prepare together with their teachers, and adults can dust off their instruments. Let’s experience that unique feeling together—being part of an orchestra.
Brass in the spotlight
A dazzling appearance and a sparkling tone, festive fanfares, deep and velvety notes. Brass instruments are among the most distinctive voices in the orchestra. But do you know just how diverse their world really is? Accept our invitation to the world of French horns, trumpets, trombones, and tubas. And that’s not all! We’ll also discover lesser-known relatives, such as flugelhorns, euphoniums, and the mysteriously sounding Wagner tubas. You’ll hear how brass instruments can sound festive, heroic, and tender—and what an important role they play in the orchestra’s overall sonic mosaic.
Come see for yourself that brass instruments aren’t just loud—they’re above all incredibly colorful!
All audience members who are learning or have learned to play any brass instrument are welcome to play along with the orchestra.
Before each concert, we invite brave participants to a joint rehearsal and a simplified practice session for brass ensemble playing. The music workshop with instructors and orchestra members is open to children and adults who have learned their part, have the courage and desire to play, would like to perform with the orchestra, and at the same time learn practical tips and advice directly from our professional musicians.
The music workshop always begins 60 minutes before the concert starts. Bring your own brass instrument!
