- Chamber duo of the concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony and the chief conductor of the Brno Philharmonic • Claude Debussy’s last completed work, written in 1917, originally intended as the final piece in a cycle of six sonatas for various instruments • Schumann’s Second Violin Sonata, written in 1851 and premiered two years later in Düsseldorf by the violinist Joseph Joachim and the pianist Clara Schumann, marking the start of the close collaboration this noted duo enjoyed for many years • The composer Lou Harrison (1917–2003), described as an “American musical maverick”, who in his music combined the traditions of Western and Eastern music and, like Debussy, often drew inspiration from Javanese gamelan ensembles • His monumental Grand Duo (1988) in five movements updates a form popular in the early Romantic era
