FRANZ SCHUBERT

Symphony No. 8 in B minor “Unfinished”

ROBERT SCHUMANN

Introduction and Allegro Appassionato, Op. 92

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART

Symphony No. 41 in C major, K551 “Jupiter”

Filharmonie Brno

conductor and soloist (piano) Stefan Veselka

  • Schubert’s famous symphonic “torso” in two movements, found among his papers nearly four decades after his death and, despite its incompleteness (shrouded in mystery), a compact and convincing musical work ● Schuman’s “concert piece” was premiered in 1850 by his wife Clara ● The last of Mozart’s late symphonies, named (not by the composer himself) after Jupiter, the chief of the Roman pantheon and god of thunder. Unusually, this was not a commissioned work but sprang from the composer’s own creative need ● Stefan Veselka, a musician from a family with Brno roots, doubles up as conductor and pianist
