The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), based in Edinburgh, is one of Scotland’s five national arts ensembles and has been a driving force on the Scottish music scene since its formation in 1974. Its high artistic standards, wide repertoire and varied programming have given it a reputation as an internationally renowned ensemble, performing throughout Scotland and abroad. A number of distinguished names have held the post of Principal Conductor. Sir Charles Mackerras served as Conductor Laureate until his death in 2010.

With the arrival of the dynamic young conductor Maxim Emelyanychev as Principal Conductor in 2019, the orchestra is writing a new chapter. In November 2019, the SCO and Emelyanychev released their first joint album (Linn Records) to wide acclaim (Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major “The Great”). Their second joint recording (Mendelssohn Symphonies) will be released in 2023.

The orchestra brings to Brno famous works of Viennese classicism (Mozart, among others, as a reminder of Sir Charles Mackerras’ strong relationship with this composer) and an attractive piece by the English composer Peter Maxwell Davies inspired by Scottish folklore (including the involvement of a Scottish piper in the performance).

The concert cannot be included in the “Create the festival” subscription.
