The PhilHarmonia Octet, founded in 2007 on the initiative of Vilém Veverka and Václav Vonášek, is a strong representative of the so-called Czech wind school. Its members are laureates of prestigious international competitions, or graduates of foreign studies, who continue to have a strong profile as solo players. The ensemble’s repertoire follows the changes in musical language against the background of changing musical epochs and styles, from the second half of the 18th century to the present day, which is reflected in the programme to be presented at the Moravian Autumn Festival. Alongside the Octet in F major by the classical composer Pavel Vranický, there will be an arrangement of Gustav Mahler’s The Boy’s Magic Horn, a top representative of Romanticism. The world premiere will feature a new work by Petr Wajsar, one of the most outstanding Czech composers of his generation. The PhilHarmonia Octet will be joined by the unique baritone Roman Hoza and double bassist Marek Švestka, a member of the Filharmonie Brno.
