NEW WORLD OF MORAVIAN AUTUMN

The New World of Moravian Autumn festival, which had its première two years ago, was the initiative f Katarína Kandriková, Eliška Kratěnová and Ema Tresová, three students at JAMU’s Department of Music Management. Over many months, they devised inventive programmes for three concerts as part of their course in practical musical programming – they discovered new works; thought about their possible performers; sought connections between the pieces; and gracefully overcame the obstacles inherent in programming and organising a music festival. Their efforts bore fruit: New World was very successful, offered unique musical experiences to its numerous audiences and confirmed that the students were capable of A+ performance.
This could have been the end, as New World was initially considered a one-off project. However, five of the students’ successors on the JAMU course – this time they were musicians – took up the challenge of keeping it going and worked hard on a programme for New World’s second year. The percussionists Adéla Spurná and David Paša, the bassoonists Aneta Kubů and Josef Paik and the multimedia composer Martin Janda devised attractive and ingenious programmes, in which they linked their disciplinary interests with new knowledge. Now New World lives on, attracts audiences to concerts they could not experience elsewhere, showcases the maturity and creativity of the organising students and, last but not least, strengthens the ties between Filharmonie Brno and JAMU. There is much to look forward to!
