Kantiléna is a selection choir of children and youth at the Brno Philharmonic; its three departments are attended by around 150 singers aged 5 to 19. It was founded in 1956 as the Šlapanice Children’s Choir on the initiative of Ivan Sedláček, its later long-time artistic director. In 1967 it became a select ensemble with its present name and since 1984 it has been a member of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra and a co-performer at its events. During its existence it has performed more than 1,500 concerts at home, in 17 European countries, in the USA, Canada and Japan. Her repertoire ranges from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works; she has performed sacred music in more than 250 venues in this country, in European capitals and in New York. She has collaborated with the National Theatre in Brno in a number of productions.
