Solo for Igor Ardašev
Under the baton of the French rising star conductor Lucie Leguay, we can look forward to two works of French Romanticism: the Symphonic Variations of César Franck (1822-1890) and the Symphony on a French Highlander tune by his pupil Vincent d’Indy (1851-1931). Both works will be performed by Igor Ardašev, a favourite (not only) of the Brno audience, for whom the staging of the solo parts in these works and their performance during one half of the concert will be a real challenge. The performance of d’Indy’s Symphony to a French Highlander tune will also be a look back into our philharmonic past: this opus was performed at the Brno Philharmonic subscription concert in December 1956, in its official first season, by pianist Jaroslav Sháněl and under the direction of their later chief conductor František Jílek.
