Event Details
Only Brad Mehldau, one of the most inspiring jazz pianists of the present day, can take hold of standards or songs by the Beatles and even Radiohead and play them as if they were his own. He takes a similarly personal approach to classical music, from which he has taken inspiration since the start of his career. Following his extremely impressive album After Bach, in which he improvised on the Prelude and Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach, he is now coming forward with a project that switches between modifications to Bach’s works as performed by a symphony orchestra and his own solo improvisations on Bach’s motifs. In the second half of the evening, Mehldau will then team up with the symphony players to perform the Czech premiere of his own Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, which has already been heard in the most prestigious halls around the world, such as Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles or London’s Barbican.
