• All five of Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770–1827) piano concertos will be performed over two weeks, “on the eve of” the 250^th anniversary of the composer’s birth ● The two early works have a prominent virtuoso solo part while the third concerto suggests a new direction in the development of the instrumental concerto, more elaborate in composition and more serious in content ● A legendary pianist of Russian extraction, Elisabeth Leonskaja, is steeped in the 20^th century Russian piano tradition; a pupil of Sviatoslav Richter, she has been for many years his musical partner; she has lived in Vienna since 1978
