• Popular overture to a Rossini opera inspired by Voltaire’s tragedy about the fabled Assyrian Queen Semiramide • Virtuoso concerto by a paragon of Viennese classicism, numbered second but composed chronologically first • Antonín Dvořák’s 1875 pivotal opus, an intermediary step on the path towards his supreme symphonies • A work that without doubt rehabilitated the form of classical symphony, viewed at the time as exhausted, and gave it new content • Igor Ardašev, the Philharmonic’s soloist of the season, celebrates an important anniversary this year and gives us his take on Beethoven • Under the baton of Petr Altrichter, former chief conductor of Brno Philharmonic, today the orchestra’s regular guest

• Overture to Handel’s first masterpiece, an opera about the tragic fate of a power-hungry Roman Empress, the wife of Claudius and mother of Nero • A Greek story about the unhappy love of the young man Leander and Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite, adapted into a cantata for soprano and orchestra • A Mozart symphony written over four days during the composer’s stay in Linz • Václav Luks, founder and artistic director of the celebrated Collegium 1704, expert on historically-informed performance of early music, focusing in particular on the baroque period
